Global Wellness Day is upon us again, on June 11th. It's a truly unique day because, only second year, it is the starting a social movement. History has proof of how social movements can deliver true change, and GWD provides us all the opportunity of being part of a global movement.
Global Wellness Day was brought about simply to ask the question, “How can I live a healthier and better life?” To get one step closer towards living well, GWD suggests a ‘manifesto’ to get you started, with 7 easy steps to incorporate into your daily routine:
1. Walk for an hour
2. Drink more water
3. Do not use disposable plastic bottles for water
4. Eat organic foods
5. Do a good deed
6. Have a family dinner
7. Go to sleep at 10:00pm
Easy enough, right?! Simple as they sound, GWD warns not to worry about implementing these steps all at once, but to incorporate at least a few of them into your daily life on a regular basis.
Visit the site to see if there are any official Global Wellness Day events in your country. If there aren't yet, be proactive and see if you can find any unofficial events to attend or workshops to join. You can also look into local spas and resorts which are having Wellness deals and events. Your local gym or yoga centre may be organising free events open to the public. It's great to see some communities are getting involved and arranging outdoor yoga, fun runs and cycling tours. Is there anything like that happening in your community?
You can even make simple changes to your daily routines without breaking a sweat: removing salt shakers from the table, using stairs instead of the elevator, improving school feeding programmes or buying local fresh products instead of processed food.
